Police searching for suspect after attempted armed robbery near VCU

RICHMOND, Va. — Police are searching for a suspect after an attempted armed robbery near VCU’s Monroe Park campus.

Police said at approximately 8:37 p.m. Tuesday, an attempted armed robbery was reported to the VCU Police Department as having occurred in the 1100 block of West Main Street.

Police said the victim reported the suspect approached her while she was walking and stated something to the effect; give me all of your cash.

When the victim stated she had no cash, the suspect displayed a knife and repeated his demand. The victim again told the suspect she had no cash and the suspect then left the area last seen walking southwest from the 1100 block of West Main Street.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident. The Richmond Police Department is investigating the incident.

The suspect is described as a black male, thin build, approximately 18-20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches – 5 feet 9 inches tall, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark colored pants, possibly jeans.

VCU and Richmond Police have increased patrols in the area.
