Bank robbery downtown likely connected to current police pursuit

RICHMOND, Va. — A bank robbery occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of E. Main Street.

Police are responding to the scene.

There is also a reported hostage situation, but it is not confirmed by police, and not confirmed if the robbery and hostage situation are connected.

A witness downtown said that the Richmond Police Department sent people on the street inside and “seemed to be attempting to extricate someone from a car, maybe against their will.”

The situation is ongoing and fluid. There are no confirmed reports from police at this time.

Those downtown are encouraged to proceed with caution, as witnesses report — and scanner traffic supports eyewitness accounts — there is a ongoing pursuit likely connected to these incidents.

The location of the robbery was within two blocks of the state Capitol.
