Wendy Williams’ Contract with Lionsgate Renewed for Seven more Years

Wendy Williams’ popularity continues to rise as the daytime talk show host’s contract with Lionsgate has been extended for another 7 years – right into 2022.

Williams’ show, “The Wendy Williams Show,” had only been scheduled to run through the 2016 – 2017 television season. But, it is thought that with her “personal services” contract renewed between her and Debmar-Mercury – the producer and distributor of the show since 2009 – there was a high chance of her show too continuing for another seven years.

The announcement was made by Lionsgate CEO John Feitheimer on Tuesday, during the studio’s earnings call with analysts.

Debmar-Mercury Co-Presidents Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein, said they were thrilled with her decision to renew her contract with them.

“Wendy has become a major force in daytime talk and we are thrilled to know she will be dishing out her daily dose of hot topics and entertaining conversations on “The Wendy Williams Show” for many years to come. The incredibly strong ratings she has built over the past six years are a lasting testament to her abilities and staying power in an incredibly competitive environment,” they said.

With the announcement from Lionsgate that Discovery and Liberty Global are also investing in the studio, Williams’ signing makes sense because she deals with both Lionsgate and Discovery.

Investigation Discovery gave her new series, “Death by Gossip with Wendy Williams,” the go-ahead earlier this year and intends to put the “Diva of Dish” – as the 51-year-old host is known – as the host and executive producer.

Meanwhile, the popularity of “The Wendy Williams Show” continues to grow and it has a viewership most shows would envy. Taped in New York, it has earned Williams a nomination this year for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host.
