Frank Levingston, America’s oldest veteran, 109, says he’s ‘Blessed’

Frank Levingston, who currently lives in Lake Charles, Louisiana, is thought to be America’s oldest veteran, and he recently got a letter from the White House thanking him for his service and wishing him a happy birthday.

“We trust you take enormous pride in everything you have accomplished,” the letter said.

Levingston served from 1943-44 in the Naples-Foggia Campaign in Italy and was discharged from the army in 1945. He said that he did not receive much of a formal education, but one lesson has carried him through life. “Be honest,” he said. “That goes a long way.”

As for his life, he looks back on it with pride.

“I think I’m one of the blessed ones,” Levingston told NBC affiliate KPLC.

Levingston will turn 110 on Friday.
